Sneeze and Wheeze

We are in the midst of hay fever season and for some people coping with the symptoms can be difficult, having an impact on their daily lives.

Typical symptoms:

  • Sneezing and coughing

  • Runny or blocked nose

  • Itchy, red, watery eyes

  • Loss of smell

  • Pain around temples and forehead

  • Headache

  • Earache

  • Feeling tired (www.nhs.uk)

Some useful tips on coping:

  • Shower every night, helps wash pollen from your hair and skin

  • Use wrap around sunglasses, helps keep pollen out you eyes

  • Keep windows closed, grass pollen peaks in the morning, tree pollen peaks in the afternoon

  • Dry washing indoors, if outside on a washing line, pollen will settle on it

  • Regular vacuuming and dusting in the house helps reduce pollen on surfaces

  • When pets return from being outdoors, ensure you brush them down to remove pollen

  • Monitor pollen forecasts on the news

  • Use a quality lip balm under your nose as this helps trap pollen, Our lip balms contain Coconut oil, Beeswax and Honey which moisturises your skin at the same time.

  • Take some local honey, a few teaspoons a day may help, as the bees are foraging on plants around you, thus helping to desensitise you to the effects of the pollen.
